Tim and Ingrid Toba were the 昀椀rst
missionaries to come work with
the Khaling language. In 1970 they
moved to Nepal. But before they could
even begin translating, they had to
study Khaling. Then they worked on
translating the Bible.
When Tim and Ingrid tried to share
the Bible with the people, no one
wanted to listen! They were all too
busy working in the 昀椀elds. They didn’t
understand why Tim and Ingrid had
time to read when there was so much
work to be done.

Another hard thing was that back
then, girls did not go to school. That
meant that a lot of people couldn’t
read or write.
Tim and Ingrid kept trying, but soon
they faced another problem. After
only six years of work, they had to
leave Nepal. The government decided
they didn’t want any foreigners in
their country anymore. So they left,
wondering what would happen to the
Khaling project!
